ZipCity Eli & Gavin Charles were able to go to ZipCity with kindly donated tickets, on November 24th. We were able to quickly assemble a basket for them; however we didn't get a limo ride because of the short time frame. The time frame was so small because Gavin's birthday was that weekend and the parents wanted something fun for him to do but didn't have the funds. Even though we couldn't get a limo, we were still able to give them a fun day where their parents were worry free and didn't have to stress about finances. Bexleigh We were finally able to get the basket to Bexleigh! Her mom was super excited and so grateful that we did this. Bexleigh is super excited to go see Disney on Ice and play with her Frozen toys we got her! New Dream Days!
A new kid was suggested to our group and his name is Zander! We are super excited to give him his Dream Day! However, since we only have a 2 weeks left in the semester we worry if we will get his done in time. We are going to try to do all we can! Zander Update (12/18) We have contacted ZipCity and we received free tickets to ZipCity for Zander! We are putting together a basket to give to him so he can get his Dream Day gift before we leave for winter break. We plan on giving him the basket as soon as possible!

Nov 13 So we have assembled the basket for Bexleigh and we are ready to give it to her, we are communicating with the family trying to work out a time where we can meet! Bexleigh's Basket Pictured Below! More Packets!
We delivered more packets to students at Sugar Creek! We also got responses and we are deciding to send the kids to ZipCity and hopefully get a limo to take them! The two boys are named Eli and Gavin Charles and are really excited. Updates & Emails ZipCity is willing to donate 2 hour unlimited passes to us so we can give them to the Charles family, we are also hoping that we can get a limo that can take them to and from ZipCity. We are sending emails to ZipCity and a rental limousine place to see if we can get discounted or free prices! We are also buying candy and making a small basket for the Charles family. Fitzgeralds So we have created the updated basket for Claire and Christian Fitzgerald and we are so excited for them to see it! We delivered it to New Palestine Elementary the 22nd and everyone in the front office was so happy that they were going to be surprised. My dream day group and I are praying for the family as well because the mother isn't doing too well, and we want the two kids to spend as much time with her as they can. Bexleigh We got Bexleigh 3 tickets to Disney On Ice! We are super excited to see her Dream Day progress. We got the tickets off of TicketMaster for a cheaper price than the actual retail price. We are planning on giving the tickets to them soon along with a gift basket filled with small goodies. We have bought a Frozen coloring book for her, and we are planning on adding a gift card and a picture frame so she can remember her special day! The tickets were delivered on Oct. 30th and telling the group was so exciting because it shows we were able to get the ball rolling on Dream Days! Zoo Trip Update We received the tickets from the zoo in the mail and we are thrilled! We are planning on meeting with the Fitzgeralds this Wednesday (10/30). We are filling a basket with cute things to give to the family when we see them on Wednesday. Since the tickets are good for any day, they are good to go for their Dream Day! Nov 1st - The meeting with the Fitzgeralds fell through because they were sick, so we are hoping to reschedule and meet with them soon! We have finished their basket and it is Halloween themed, however it might change since Halloween has already passed. What Next?
We are still trying to get in contact with other families and schools to get more Dream Days started. It's a struggle and a very long process and so we are patiently waiting for our next Dream Day to pop up! Packet Responses After delivering 6 packets, we have got some responses. First we went to Sugar Creek and New Palestine Elementary and gave the packets to the principals who would then distribute them to the resource teachers who would pick the a child for Dream Day. We have received 3 packets back, one from a family who have two children partaking in Dream Day and the other from a preschool girl, Bexleigh. We have contacted the Bexleigh's mother and are planning on meeting them this week so we can finalize her Dream Day! We plan on getting to know Bexleigh and her situation a little more, along with what she is most excited for. Through this meeting we are hopeful that we will be able to completely plan her special day! Here are the pictures of submitted packets: Getting a Grant In order to make the Dream Days possible, we needed to get a grant that would allow us to purchase tickets to the Indianapolis Children's Museum and other places the kids would like to go. We also want to put a small amount of the grant towards buying the children gifts so they can remember their Dream Day! We used the organization Inspire apply for a grant! Linked Here: http://iasp.formstack.com/forms/inspire3_mini_grant_application We got approved and received a $250 grant, which is very generous and more than enough to accomplish our goals! Here is a picture of the email we received: Contacting the Zoo & Museum In the packets we have gotten back, the interests for their Dream Day seem to be the Indianapolis Zoo and the Indianapolis Children's Museum. First, our group contacted the zoo to see if they gave discounted or free tickets to people with special needs, and they do! We have been in contact with the public relations sector trying to work out details for reduced price tickets. We also contacted the museum, but sadly they do not do reduced price or free tickets for projects such as this. But thankfully, we have our grant that will allow us to purchase museum tickets. For the zoo, they asked us to create a proposal that we could send in so they can get an idea of our project and what we are doing! Here is a picture of it: Meeting Bexleigh (10/17/19)
Today we met with Bexleigh, her sister, and her mother. We had a great time getting to see her personality come out and getting to know more about her. She loves Frozen and is super excited for this! Our group now is wondering if instead of the Children's Museum, we should get tickets for Disney On Ice, since she is such a huge Disney fan. However, we are super excited to have met with one kid! Good News (10/16/19) The zoo called one of the group members, Kaylin, back and said some great news. They are giving us 6 tickets, 1 parking pass, and attraction tickets! We are stoked to hear this and we can't wait to tell the family!
What is Dream Day?
Dream Day is a project where we, students, provide a special needs kid with a fun-filled day of their choosing in central Indiana. We involve the families of the kid and give them items so they can remember their amazing day! Dream Day is similar to the "Make-A-Wish Foundation" but on a smaller scale that high school students can handle. Initial Project Thoughts Haley Rickey, Malerie Kleiman, Kaylin Casner, and I wanted to continue a "legacy project" that dealt with helping others (specifically younger kids). So we decided to ignite a new chapter of the Dream Day project! Dream Day is a special project that allows students with disabilities to have a wish of theirs come true, whether it be a dress up party or a trip to the zoo. However, past Dream Day projects focused on high school students with learning disabilities, but my group wanted to focus on younger kids so we decided to reach out to the elementary schools. We hope to give at least two kids per elementary school a Dream Day.
Proposal & Pitch Day
A couple weeks ago Mr. Large held our "Pitch Day." We invited the principals from all elementary schools in our district. We also invited some resource teachers that would have a say when picking the recipients of the dream day. Our group prepared a google slide presentation and created the first draft of our packet that we would hand out to kids. In our presentation we specifically focused on how we would choose the children and how we would give them their dream day (logistics and what not). The pitch day went very well, and the audience responded happily to the proposal. We had a few suggestions that was offered by the audience and we happily took them! We also made a rough outline of a schedule that we are going to follow when planning events. [ schedule.docx ]
